3rdTech's
New DeltaSphere-3000 Software Simplifies Measurement & Model Creation for
Large Areas, Objects
CHAPEL
HILL, N.C.,
August 13, 2001 – 3rdTech
Inc. will introduce new software at SIGGRAPH 2001 that will simplify critical
functions of its DeltaSphere-3000 3D scanner for applications in as-built
construction, crime/accident scene reconstruction, and virtual prototyping of
large models for web sites, video games, simulation and training.
Key features of DeltaSphere-3000 version 2
software include a new user interface, simplified display of positioning and
measurement information, and interactive tools for mapping of color images to
point clouds.
The DeltaSphere-3000 scans room-size spaces
and objects and produces a 3D point cloud of the scene.
In addition to providing scanning control and monitoring, version 2 of
DeltaSphere’s client software provides a point-and-click interface to the
scanned data. Elevation, azimuth
and range are displayed for every point as well as its corresponding x,y,z
coordinates. The new software also
displays the real-world distance between any two points in the data set,
enabling simple, rapid measurement of objects and spaces.
New end-user software tools in version 2
make the most of the DeltaSphere’s unique ability to capture full-color
digital images from the same point at which the scanner is collecting
dimensional data. The programs –
called Rview, Tview and Match – are interactive
tools for mapping color images to point clouds.
They allow users to quickly and precisely map color data to points,
producing digital models with real-world color and lighting.
Additional new software features include a
3D point-cloud viewer, and data export to VRML and several popular third-party
modeling, fitting and reverse-engineering packages.
